Memories of Home: Cail

Cail Darkstar remembers his home on the planet Kema. He is seven or eight years of age here.

His father Teilo was a Kemai fisherman, his mother Vekina a princess of the planet Magin. Vekina was more or less banished from her homeworld when she decided to marry Teilo, and couldn't have been happier.

Most days, Cail and his half-brother Olakip would fish with their father, spending all day out on the boat, or would hunt for root vegetables in the oasis across the lake with their mother.

When Cail's parents were killed, he and Olakip were deposited on the planet Trolis, and sold into slavery. Trolis was a far cry from the warm, desert-like terrain and atmosphere of Kema; the planet is covered mostly by forest and is substantially cooler than Kema. It was just one of the things Cail had to grow accustomed to.
